Year 2000 Compliance
As we are all surely now aware, the millennium is at hand! It is our firm
belief at Audiosears that the coming century will be one of great opportunity
for all of us involved in the telecommunications industry. We are also sure
that we share similar concerns about the possible effects of the Y2K problem.
As a service to our customers, we have developed this section of our web site
as a means of communicating the current status of our century change program.
To date the following tasks have been completed successfully:
Management Initiatives
- All Y2K initiatives are fully supported by Audiosears' Senior
Management.
- Senior Management has created an internal "Y2K Compliance Team."
- Y2K compliance has been defined as: "A condition in which there will be
no interruption of service to our customers, and no Y2K related product
nonconformances".
Product Conformance
- Audiosears products have been audited for Y2K compliance. Since our
products contain no date sensitive devices or computer code we are able
to certify that they will perform as advertised both before and after
the century change.
Supplier Chain
- Supplier self assessment forms have been sent to all critical
suppliers. All suppliers have now responded.
- Complete supplier chain audit has been completed.
Facilities and Transportation
- Our PBX has been certified by the supplier to be Y2K compliant.
- We are a customer of Bell Atlantic and anticipate no regional voice or
data system interruptions.
- Many of our component parts and supplies are received via UPS and
FedEx. We expect no interruption in either of their systems. As well,
we expect no problems in shipping our products via those carriers.
- Our trucking companies have certified their Y2K compliance.
- Our local electric utility has stated their compliance with Y2K
protocols. Barring a regional power grid shutdown, our service will
remain uninterrupted.
- We have audited our LAN systems and expect no disruptions.
IT Planning
- A complete inventory of computer equipment has been completed.
- Our main factory control system has been tested to the following list
of criteria. There were NO nonconformances.
Hardware Platform Test
- Power On 1999-2000 rollover, (BIOS test)
- Power Off 1999-2000 rollover, (Real Time Clock test)
- Set 2000 date, power off-power on (Real Time Clock update test)
Operating System Tests
- 1999 to 2000 rollover using OS date setting commands
- 2000-02-28 to 2000-02-29 rollover, (Y2K leap year day)
- Set 2000-12-31, (Y2K day 366)
- Julian date conversion of 2000-02-29
- Julian date conversion of 2000-12-31
- 2038-01-18 22:14:07, (System time field overflow)
Software Development Systems
- Our software development system was tested by setting dates, converting
to and from Julian dates, and performing time span calculations for all
dates from March 1753 to December 4799 (the range of dates covered by
the current Gregorian calendar). All dates, conversions, and
calculations were performed correctly.
Application Tests
- Our factory control software suite was tested with a variety of
critical dates. All Julian conversions and time span calculations were
performed correctly. The system date of the server is valid through
January 18, 2038. The failure at this date is due to limitations of the
Unix operating system. A correction for this error is expected before
2000.
Export Interface Test
- Exporting data files from our factory control software database was
tested with a variety dates. All exported data were read by other
software with the correct dates.
Distributed PCs and Imbedded Controllers
- A survey of older computers not related to factory or process control
revealed Y2K nonconformances in BIOS. These machines are only used for
applications such as word processing and desktop publishing. "Patch
software" and supplier software upgrades will be installed on these
machines, or the machines will be replaced on an attrition basis. All
of our newer PCs have Y2K compliant BIOS.
- Our machine controllers are all either Y2K compliant or not date
sensitive.
We hope that the preceding discussion has addressed any concerns concerning
Audiosears’ Y2K compliance status. We wish you all success in the new
millennium!
